MORE F2 ACTION AT
WHEELS
Saturday 13th March sees the second
of four meetings in as many weeks for the fantastic BriSCA Formula 2
Stock Cars at Birmingham Wheels Raceway.
The F2s always provide great action at the Bordesley Green quarter
mile oval however high or low their numbers, and over 30 cars
contested the season opener on March 6th which was excellent as
always. The entry included several Scottish visitors including
former World Champion Chris Burgoyne (647) and hopes are high that
they will attend again. West Country-based drivers Jon Palmer (24)
and Chevy Mills (538) were on top form last week as was Final winner
Liam Bentham (488) from Lancashire, and they will aim to repeat
their success this weekend.
March 13th marks the second round of the March Speedweeks series,
and the drivers will be eager to accumulate as many points as
possible ready for the final on March 27th. The nature of the racing
at Wheels means that any driver on the grid could be champion when
Speedweeks Final day rolls around.
The all-action rear wheel drive Lightning Rods kick-off their season
with plenty of sideways action from the Sierras promised once again.
Paul Barry (4) defends the points title, but he will have his work
cut out against a number of new drivers to the formula including
former 3-time Hot Ford points champion Paul Warner and his brother
Scott as they make the step up.
The young racers in the Ministox also begin their season, and again
several new faces are anticipated to make their debuts. Local star
Ben Lewis-Thompson (219) defends the points title, but with plenty
of visitors from the south and east set to make the journey to
Birmingham once again, the racing from these armoured Minis should
be closer than ever.
Birmingham Wheels Raceway is situated off Landor Street in the
Bordesley Green area, close to St Andrew’s football ground. For sat
nav users, the postcode is B8 1AD. Action gets underway at 6.45pm
sharp – and with more great racing at Northampton International
Raceway on Sunday, why not make a weekend of it?
Admission prices are just £12 for adults and £6 for children, with
family tickets available at just £30 (admitting two adults and up to
three children). Admission includes a souvenir programme, and great
viewing is available from both turns and the home straight, with hot
and cold food and a licensed bar on offer throughout the night plus
various other trade stands. The pits are also open to the public, so
fans can take a closer look at the stars and their cars.

NEW SEASON READY TO
ROLL!
The UK’s fastest short oval racing
formula arrives at Northampton International Raceway to kick off
another season on Sunday March 14th.
The National Hot Rods are an awesome experience both to race and
watch, and their speed around the Brafield quarter mile has to be
seen to be believed, with the drivers displaying superb skill to put
on close non-contact racing in such a confined arena.
Carl Boardley (41) – who is aiming for a record fifth consecutive
World Championship this year – will surely start as favourite, but
the Suffolk-based ace’s rivals will be more determined than ever to
catch him.
Peterborough’s Neil Stimson (271) was on top at the formula’s last
Northampton appearance back in November, while former World Champion
Malcolm Blackman (911) is just one point behind Boardley in the
World Series point chart. Also look out for Cumbria’s Wayne Lee (99)
who returns after several years away, and reigning English champion
Chris Haird (115).
Also on the bill are the sensational 1300 Stock Cars, who were
extremely lively when they appeared at Northampton last season.
These Southern and Eastern-based drivers certainly take no prisoners
in their ironed-up saloons and hatchbacks, and carnage is set to
ensue once more when the green flag drops.
The BriSCA Formula 2 Stock Cars, always a Northampton favourite,
complete the line-up in the middle of a busy month, and many drivers
will make a weekend of it with action at Birmingham Wheels Raceway
the night before. Perennial favourites such as current World
Champion Micky Brennan (968) and former National Points champion
Chris Bradbury (886) should head the entry, but there is always the
possibility of a few surprise entries.
Northampton International Raceway is located approximately five
miles from Northampton, and easily found from M1 Junction 15. Take
the A428 and head for the village of Brafield-on-the-Green. In the
village take the turn on the right towards Horton, and the Raceway
is on the right before reaching Horton. The action gets underway on
Sunday 14th March at 1.30pm – and with action at Birmingham the
night before, why not make a weekend of it?
Entry is just £12 for adults and £6 for children with family tickets
(two adults and up to three children) at £30, and this includes a
souvenir programme. Great viewing is available all around the
raceway, with hot and cold food and a licensed bar on offer
throughout the meeting. Bring the whole family along for a day out
to remember!
